Juneteenth: Freedom Day – June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 by admin@interfaith

Let us remember today, on this Juneteenth, our brothers and sisters of Texas who were finally freed from slavery on June 19, 1865. The Emancipation Proclamation was two and a half years old at the time, but it wasn’t until the Army arrived in Texas on June 19, 1865, that the 250,000 enslaved people of Texas received their freedom.

Let us also remember all of those who have gone before us, working (and sacrificing their lives) toward a nation where all are “created equal” and there is “liberty and justice for all”.

President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., president of the United States, in his “A Proclamation on Juneteenth Day of Observance, 2024”, states “I call upon the people of the United States to acknowledge and condemn the history of slavery in our Nation and recognize how the impact of America’s original sin remains. I call on every American to celebrate Juneteenth and recommit to working together to eradicate systemic racism and inequity in our society wherever they find it.”
